Hopewell Study Recommends Increasing Custodial, Cafeteria Salaries

Hopewell City Public Schools should increase cafeteria and custodial workers' salaries, among other steps to improve the division's compensation system, a study by the Virginia Association of School Superintendents has found.

The study results were presented to the School Board at their March 9 work session and were based on online surveys of and interviews with HCPS employees as well as surveys of school district employees in Chesterfield, Colonial Heights, Dinwiddie, Prince George and Petersburg.

Within HCPS, 45 percent of employees responded to the survey.

Overall, VASS highlighted five priority areas for the school division and offered recommendations to address them.
