Big changes are being planned for the 2022 VASS Annual Fall Conference:
- The expansive and centrally-located Marriott Hotel on East Broad Street in downtown Richmond is the new venue for the VASS Fall Conference.
- Superintendents will be able to invite members of their school division leadership teams to participate with them in this year’s conference.
- The final day of the conference will be a full-day workshop presented by Steve Constantino on engaging both disaffected and disinterested K12 public school families.
One objective of the conference is to expose school division leadership team members to legislative and policy issues routinely addressed by superintendents, in order to give team members an insight to what it’s like to be a superintendent. Many conference participants will be members of the Virginia Leaders Innovation Network (VaLIN) which is receiving funding from the same VDOE grant that is funding the VASS Superintendent Success Initiative. Whereas the goal of the Superintendent Success Initiative is to retain sitting superintendents, the goal of VaLIN is to cultivate school division leaders who may step into the role of the superintendency in the future.
October 31, the first full day of the conference, will feature presenters and panelists who will provide a wealth of information on issues that will be addressed this year by the state’s chief policymakers in the Youngkin Administration, the Virginia Board of Education and the Virginia General Assembly. The day will culminate in the development of a plan of action for conference participants to advocate for or against specific policy positions.
Over one hundred superintendent members of VASS saw Steve Constantino’s keynote presentation “Engage Every Family: Five Simple Principles for District Leaders” during the VASS Annual Spring Conference in Roanoke. During the final day of the Fall Conference, Steve will go into more depth with an emphasis on winning back families who have become dissatisfied with public schools for a number of reasons. This engaging workshop will provide school division leadership teams with specific strategies for implementation in their divisions.
The program will also provide a number of opportunities for social interaction during meals and receptions where participants can catch up with colleagues and friends. Along with the new venue and new features, the 2022 Fall Conference promises to be an outstanding event. We look forward to seeing you there.

Conference Fee and Registration for Superintendents, Superintendent Designees, and Retired Superintendents
The 2022 Fall Conference fee for superintendents, superintendent designees (other school division leaders), and retired superintendents is $375 per person.
The registration deadline is Friday, October 14.
In the registration form (below), required fields are indicated with a red asterisk. Mistakes made in completing the form will be highlighted in red.
Once you have submitted the registration, the person or people whom you have designated to receive a confirmation email should see that email (with registration information included) within 24 hours.
You will be invoiced after the conference and you may pay by credit card or PayPal using the link to the VASS online payment portal which you will receive along with the invoice.
If you do not pay by credit card at registration, the person on the registration form whom you have identified as the billing contact will receive an invoice for payment after the conference.
If a purchase order number is provided on the registration form, it will be referenced on the invoice.
Notice of cancellation must be sent by email to Cindy Babb, the VASS Administrative Assistant, by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 14. . . or you will be billed in full.
