Marcus Newsome, Director of the Virginia Superintendents’ Leadership Academy, gave the welcoming remarks which reflected on his own experiences growing up and as a teacher in a segregated educational system.  Paraphrasing Martin Luther King’s remarks about injustice, Marcus exclaimed, “Inequity anywhere is a problem for equity everywhere.”

Also in attendance were VASS members: Chuck Winkler, Superintendent of Fluvanna County Schools; Scott Kizner, Superintendent of  Stafford County Schools; and Mark Johnston, Superintendent of Shenandoah County Schools.

Education Elements is also supporting the VASS Virginia Superintendents Leadership Academy financially.  The VSLA is scheduled to begin this summer.
