This full-day action packed workshop will provide teachers, principals, and central office administrators for students in grades 6-12 with grade-level/content-area specific toolkits to integrate critical thinking, creative thinking, collaboration, communication and citizenship into the assessment and instruction of the SOL in all subject areas. Learning structures that support the Profile of a Virginia Graduate will be practiced throughout the workshop.

Participants will collaboratively experience grade-specific structures to:

  • recognize and analyze diverse points of view; actively listen; ask purposeful questions; use technology effectively to present information (communication)
  • examine, synthesize, and apply knowledge (critical thinking)
  • express and initiate new ideas; use technology to share ideas and stimulate scholarly growth (collaboration)
  • act with empathy to individual perspectives and cultural backgrounds (citizenship)
  • nurture cross-disciplinary knowledge; use trial and success; explore possibilities (creative thinking)

Each participant is requested to bring a tablet or laptop to access resources modeled during the day of learning.
