VASS Annual Fall Conference
October 22 - 24 , 2017
This year, VASS is combining its Annual Fall Conference with the Governor’s Summit on the Teacher Shortage Crisis. The VASS Fall Conference is being held at the Charlottesville Omni Hotel all day on Monday, October 23 and on Tuesday morning, October 24. The Governor’s Summit is being held at the UVA Curry School of Education in Charlottesville on Tuesday, October 24, after the VASS Conference concludes. There is no additional cost for attending the Governor’ Summit on the Teacher Shortage Crisis; however, participation is limited (on a first register, first serve basis) due to limited space at Curry.
The VASS Fall Conference will offer participants a wealth of different opportunities to gain a deeper understanding of the latest legislative and policy issues affecting Virginia's public schools. This year’s conference program features 45 speakers and panelists who will address a variety of legislative policy, budget, and instructional issues such as: community college tuition, dual enrollment credit, ESSA's budget implications, Profile of a Virginia Graduate, the revised SOA, SOL innovation, student growth measures, performance-based assessments, state funding, and legal issues affecting students and school divisions. Several members of the General Assembly have been invited, along with other key policymakers and speakers who are featured annually such as Bob Holsworth, Jim Regimbal, and Craig Wood.
The registration form for the VASS Fall Conference is at the bottom of this page.
The Governor’s Summit includes speakers and break-out sessions that specifically address one of the most critical issues currently facing our school divisions – the teacher shortage crisis. This event at the Curry School of Education will involve many opportunities for discussion and input on viable solutions to the crisis.
Superintendents only are invited to use the following link to register to attend the Governor’s Summit on the Teacher Shortage Crisis: https://education.virginia.gov/teacher-shortages
