VASS-VASBO 2020 Winter Conference
January 05 - January 07, 2020
In conjunction with the start of the Virginia General Assembly's 2020 Legislative Session in Richmond, VASS and VASBO offer a multi-session conference exploring budgetary and policy issues that directly affect the budget planning efforts of Division Superintendents and their School Business Officials.
The conference will feature presentations by public policymakers and experts who will address:
- Governor Northam's and the General Assembly's Proposed Budgets and Legislative Packages for K12 Education
- Cyber Security
- VRS Regulations
- Regional Special Education Funding
- Virginia’s Childhood Education Budget Initiative
- Dominion Energy’s Electric Bus Initiative
- ESSA Data and School Expenditure Reporting
- School Safety and Security Funding
- The 2020 VASS and VASBO Legislative Positions
The Governor’s Proposed Budget – The Honorable Ralph Northam, Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia (invited)
Cyber Security and Public Education – Former Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia Terry McAuliffe
Virginia’s Early Childhood Education Initiative – Pamela Northam, First Lady of the Commonwealth of Virginia (invited) and Holly Coy, Deputy Secretary of Education

Conference Fee and Registration for VASS Superintendents, VASS Superintendent Designees, VASS Retired Superintendents, VASBO Financial Officers, and other VASBO Members
The 2020 Winter Conference fee for VASS Superintendents, VASS Superintendent Designees, VASS Retired Superintendents, VASBO Financial Officers and other VASBO members is $225 per person.
The registration deadline is Friday, December 27, 2019.
In the registration form (below), required fields are indicated with a red asterisk. Mistakes made in completing the form will be highlighted in red.
Once you have submitted the registration, the person or people whom you have designated to receive a confirmation email should see that email (with registration information included) within 24 hours.
Pre-Payment is not required. However, if you would like to pay now by credit card or PayPal, you will be provided with a link to the VASS online payment portal after you submit your registration.
If you do not pay by credit card at registration, the person on the registration form whom you have identified as the billing contact will receive an invoice for payment after the conference.
If a purchase order number is provided on the registration form, it will be referenced on the invoice.
Notice of cancellation must be sent by email to Liza Scallet, the VASS Administrative Assistant, by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, December 27 . . . or you will be billed in full.
Registration for VASS Partners, VASBO Partners, and VASS Business Affiliate Members
VASS Business Partners and VASBO Business Partners are invited to participate in the Winter Conference. A specific number of representatives from each VASS and VASBO Partner are free, depending on their level of membership.
VASS Partners and VASBO Partners who would like to attend the conference are asked to contact Liza Scallet, the VASS Administrative Assistant, for registration information.
VASS Business Affiliate Members (Levels One-Three) are eligible to send representatives to the Winter Conference. Please contact Liza Scallet, the VASS Administrative Assistant, for more information and the link to register representatives.

The rate is $145 for a single OR for a double per night. Internet access is included in the rate. Paid parking is available in the parking garage across E. Broad St. and in the parking lot across N. 5th Street from the hotel.
The deadline to reserve a discounted room is December 19, 2021.
